With Japan's rich cultural heritage and well-preserved historical sites, it's no surprise that the country has more than 20 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Japan is also home to some of the most spectacular vistas in the world, including traditional villages, sacred temples and shrines.

To compile this ranking, 52 of the world's most recognizable UNESCO World Heritage sites across seven continents were analyzed. To measure their degree of "fascination", special gaze-tracking technology was used to determine how much time participants spent looking at each of these landmarks.

Kyoto Ancient Monuments (including the cities of Kyoto, Uji, and Otsu) ranked tenth in this annual survey. The temples, shrines, and gardens in this collection scored a total of 125 fixations and an average viewing time of 0.29 seconds. Although Mount Fuji did not make the top ten, it ranked 16th in the ranking. This sacred mountain, a symbol of Japan, received a total of 85 fixations and an average viewing time of 0.29 seconds.
