Okunoshima is a small island in the Seto Inland Sea off the coast of Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The area of the island does not exceed 4.3 square kilometers. 

The island is home to more than 700 rabbits, which is why it became known as "Rabbit Island". It is most convenient to stay at a hotel in Hiroshima and travel to the island the next day. It takes 25-30 minutes to get to Okunoshima Island by ferry.

  • After arrival, it's a hike walk around the Orabbit stock.
  • Rabbits The rabbits walk freely and happily around the area and literally jump out at the feet of tourists getting off the ferry. To protect the rabbit population, dogs and cats are not allowed on the island.
  • Rabbit feed can be bought on the island or brought with you. However, the island is not only famous for rabbits. During World War II, a secret chemical weapons factory was located here. The factory operated from 1929 to 1945. It was closed after the war.
  • To this day, you can still find ruins of former chemical laboratories and military facilities.  And in 1988, it was opened here Poison Gas Museumwhich tells the story of the dangers and terrible consequences of chemical weapons.
